Christmas 2003

(be sure to visit the Christmas Letter Archive!)

Jolly friends and family, lean your ears this way,
We wish you happy holidays in our special way!
Paige and Ryan and the kids wish you all the best
Read our little letter to find out the rest.

Hark the Herald angels play the piano and flute

Cole and Megan are both continuing with piano lessons, and this year Cole decided he wanted to join the band at school and is learning to play the flute.  Although he’s not concert ready yet, he’s working hard and improves a little bit every week.  Hopefully they will both stick with their lessons and we will have beautiful music in our home for years to come.

Rudolph the Soccer Playing reindeer

Natalie joined the ranks of the soccer players this year, so we had three kids on three different soccer teams.  The timing of the soccer season wasn’t so great, as the practices started the week John was born.  So, while Paige stayed home nursing the baby, Ryan was a trooper and went to three games on Saturdays those first few weeks.  While we can’t say we have the next Pele here at the Erickson home, the kids all improved in their skills and most importantly had a lot of fun.

You’d better watch out, you’d better not cry, you’d better not pout I’m telling you why…

Because with a 2 year old and a 5 year old both home during the day, we have enough of that going on here already.  It amazes me how Natalie and Jenna can be the best of friends one minute and the next minute Jenna is shouting “I don’t like Natalie” at the top of her lungs.  Oh well, next year there’ll be Kindergarten and preschool as distractions.

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Kicksen

This year Natalie took dance lessons and loved it.  She was a ballerina for Halloween, and seeing her in her costume, Jenna decided she wanted to be a ballerina, too.  They both looked lovely in leotards and tutus!  They wore the warm costumes at night for trick or treating.

Cole started karate this fall and is really enjoying it.  He was showing us some kicks recently and Ryan commented, “That’s the fastest I’ve ever seen Cole’s feet move!”  So far he has not used his newfound karate skills to injure any of his sisters, but he will hopefully be able to defend himself against them when they mercilessly pick on him.

Oh come all ye faithful

We continue to enjoy our callings at church; Paige is the junior primary chorister and is relieved to have our primary program over with, and Ryan is in the Elder’s quorum presidency and does a great job with last minute lessons when his teachers frequently flake on him.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night’s sleep!

With the birth of our son John in September, we’re getting a bit less sleep around here.  He was 3 ½ weeks early and tiny (only 5 and a half pounds) so he eats often and slowly.  He’s now sleeping a bit better at night and is awake more in the day, and is about the cutest little thing you’ve ever seen, so we’ll put up with a little lack of sleep.

Joy to the World

At this Christmas season, we hope that there is Joy in your world!  We rejoice in the gospel of Jesus Christ and the blessings we receive, and try to find Joy in everyday situations.   We are thankful for employment, health, and our friends and family.  May you enjoy the blessings of the season and happiness and good health all year!

Love from all of us!
Ryan, Paige, Cole, Megan, Natalie, Jenna and John Erickson
