We have two cats right now, and they have occasionally turned up inexplicably injured. I hate that feeling -- when a pet seems in danger, but you don't know what from. I hope everything turns out alright with Sundance.
Pets are absolutely wonderful. I guess it depends on the cat, but I highly recommend them as well. They can be very friendly and active (and, of course very lazy at other times), and are amusing when combined with wooden floors (when they run, they have a hard time stopping, and accidentally run into things). Basically I agree with what you said -- spend time with them, love them, and be sure to feed them, and you won't regret it.

Ok, I would totally eat a sword-mint. Spears are overrated. And it does seem that the people who write up the warnings need to have a nice doce of reality. Especially on coasters. They always say to 'hold on' or 'keep all hands in the ride at all times' yeah, right. Who doesn't raise thier arms while spinning in a tight corkskrew and plummeting to thier death.......

As one of those relatives who "can't believe how much you've grown," I gotta say that I feel like you've aged 17 years and I haven't changed. But it's interesting if I think about it, turning the mirror back on myself, and realize that I've aged 17 years in what feels like a week or two. I remember like yesterday when you were opening your first birthday presents in your old house in Lehi, and you loved that ball toy where they'd go down a little plastic maze and come out at the bottom. Yet, I have aged half my life in that time--I was 17 when you were born! (Hint hint--time is all down hill from here--you'll be 34 before you know it!)
